Swarovski EL Overview

These binoculars come with Swarovski EL SwaroVision technology that provides you with exceptional crystal-clear images featuring a remarkable color fidelity. The images stay true to color and sharpness from edge-to-edge.

Swarovski Optics is a family-run business, and it deals in binoculars and sport optics. All the binoculars are entirely made in Austria. These binoculars come with a heavy price tag on them, and they are meanest for serious users who want their optics to last for a lifetime.

The wraparound grip and ergonomic design allow you to hold it for long hours and watch a bird’s flight without any fatigue.

The Swarovski EL binos are available in different sizes. The range is good enough for a variety of users.

The most popular size is the 8.5×42 and the 10×32 among birders and wildlife observers because of their quality imagery with precision in colors and clarity.

The next two sections of this review will describe some common features in all available EL sizes. Later on, in this review, we will briefly discuss each of these sizes and the features they have to offer.

Optical performance

These EL binoculars’ overall optical performance is quite splendid because of their easy handling and sharp image results in varying light conditions.

Lens quality

Swarovski uses high-quality fluoride glass to construct EL series lens, which means you’ll not see any color fidelity. The color production is close to real life, and that’s what makes it the best pair of binoculars for nature observers. These lenses feature Swarovski SwaroVision optical coatings to enhance the sharpness and clarity of the views.

The phase-coated roof prisms used in these binoculars ensure greater light transmission to enjoy bright images during low light conditions.

With the help of a field flattener lens, you get a wide field of view even if you wear eyeglasses. It means you can see the tiniest details appear razor-sharp throughout the image.

Image quality

You’ll see high-definition imaging with the Swarovski EL binos due to the field-flattening lenses that guarantee edge-to-edge sharpness. It means that you can always enjoy distortion-free images without any blurred edges.

We also noticed pin-sharp contours, true-to-life colors, and high contrast for ensuring great details. The SwarVison lens coating does its job quite effectively to ensure better light handling and excellent color rendering.

All SwaroVision EL binoculars guarantee over 90% light transmission, and a large exit pupil makes a better option to try out in twilight conditions.

Construction and quality

Even with such high-quality optics, these binoculars don’t feel heavy in your hand and have a very ergonomic design built to take on the outdoors toll.

Body and grip

Due to the magnesium-alloy chassis, you can store them in temperatures -22 to +158 °F. With wraparound rubber armoring, they feel very comfortable in your hands, even in moist conditions.

Swarovski has nitrogen-purged, and O-ring sealed these binoculars to make them fog and waterproof. Therefore, you can use them comfortably in the rain.

These binoculars are tripod adaptable but you can only use a Swarovski tripod with them. They also come with lockable diopter settings so you can avoid random shifting of any kind.

Focus wheel and focusing

These binoculars’ focus mechanism is pretty settled with satisfying clicks, and it’s not overly sensitive. It will allow you to adjust according to your needs and pretty comfortably.

When you are up close at around 5 feet, you will notice how precise this mechanism is. And at any magnification, you will always get highly accurate colors. You will experience the accuracy of colors when you view little hummingbirds using your EL binoculars.

The focusing was placed nicely due to the ergonomic design, and it features non-slip streaks on it so you can use it effortlessly, even in moist conditions.

Eyecups and lens covers

Finally, I found a binocular that has resolved the lens cover issue. I love the way Swarovski Optik EL covers attach and detach. It means that you won’t have to deal with any lost covers, but you will get plenty of protection from any impacts.

Swarovski has used high-quality materials to construct these caps to blend them well with the overall design. They are not excessively overweight either to make them flopping around when you are using your binoculars. The eyecups are pretty comfortable to use, even for long sessions.

Swarovski EL model sizes

There are six different sizes available in the Swarovski EL series. The most popular of them all is the 8.5×42 and 10×32 among the birders. Hunters find 10×42 more useful, though. By the way, for serious astronomers, 12×50 are best.

The following table contains a detailed overview of all the available sizes in this model.

Swarovski EL 8X32

The Swarovski EL 8×32 binoculars are great for using on the go because of their lightweight construction and compact size. These are the lightest of all the EL binoculars, along with the 10×32 size.

However, this size provides you with the widest field of view of all the sizes, which is 432 feet @ 1000 yards. It means that you can use these Swarovski 8×32 EL to enjoy those vast views out there. For sightseeing, camping, and hiking, this is the best feature to have.

If you wear eyeglasses, you’ll feel comfortable using Swarovski 8×32 EL SwaroVision binoculars because they come with 20mm eye relief.

Swarovski EL 8.5X42

The Swarovski EL 8.5×42 binoculars are better suited for a more detailed view when you are out there enjoying nature.

These binoculars come with more powerful optics with one of the best exit pupil sizes at 4.9mm in this series. It means that you will get brighter images as this size is better suited for twilight usage. For instance, you’ll enjoy every detail for a wandering Albatross taking-off and gliding in the air.

As these Swarovski 8.5×42 EL binoculars come with more powerful optics, they are slightly heavier to hold. You might need to have a steady pair of heads to use them at full magnification. Otherwise, you can use a tripod or a window mount.

Moreover, the linear field of view of Swarovski EL 42 is still pretty much right up there at 399 feet @ 1000 yards, and you will enjoy panning across the scenery for a brilliant viewing experience.

Swarovski EL 10X32

The Swarovski EL 10×32 binoculars are another lightweight addition to the series. So, they are going to be great for using on the go and catching birds’ flight.

Eye relief is again right up there at 20mm, so you will feel pretty comfortable with your eyeglasses when using these binoculars.

However, you will have to compromise on exit pupil here because it is the least of all the EL series sizes at 3.2mm. It means that the Swarovski 10×32 EL size is the least favorable for twilight conditions.

Swarovski EL 10X42

The EL 42 size combines the weight and powerful optics to provide you with edge-to-edge clarity and sharp images even with a wide FoV. You get a massive eye relief of 20mm like that makes it comfortable to use with eyeglasses. You will also get to enjoy a decent-enough linear field of view of 336 feet @ 1000 yards with Swarovski EL 10×42.

The Swarovski EL 10×42 binoculars come with high-powered optics, which makes them a bit heavy. You might find it a little bit tough to hold on the go.

These Swarovski hunting binoculars are smack in the middle of lightweight EL binoculars and high-powered ones. So, you can derive plenty of value for your money from Swarovski Optik EL 10×42.

Swarovski EL 10X50

The Swarovski EL 10×50 binoculars come with upgraded objective lenses, so the viewing experience is exceptional here.

Due to the larger objective lenses, these Swarovski 10×50 EL binoculars are heavy to hold, and you will need a tripod, or a window mount to use them comfortably.

But you won’t have to compromise on eye relief, and it’s still there at 20mm. So if you wear eyeglasses, you’ll feel comfortable with the EL 50.

Swarovski EL 12X50

The Swarovski EL 12×50 binoculars are the best in terms of optics in the entire series. You don’t have to compromise much on eye relief as it is 19mm long. So, it’s a great choice to consider if you wear glasses.

For stargazers and astronomers, Swarovski bino is the best. It offers a linear FoV of 300 feet, and you get to pan across the view pretty comfortably, even at 12x magnification.

So, whether you are exploring nature or gazing upon the skies, the Swarovski 12×50 EL size will let you enjoy the sky objects for a long time. Use a tripod or a window mount with this size because it’s pretty heavy due to the powerful optics.

Swarovski Warranty

Swarovski is a high-quality brand that delivers quality products and stands behind all its products, including the different components and accessories.

That is why you will get a 10-year warranty on all your Swarovski Optik el binoculars. At the same time, all the accessories and electronic components are covered under a 2-year warranty.

It’s a decent-ish warranty considering Vortex and Leupold’s brands offering a lifetime warranty on their products.

The warranty covers any quality issues associated with the materials and craftsmanship, excluding any cosmetic damage, theft, or accidental breakage.

Downsides

I’d like to mention here that Swarovski could have offered a far better warranty at this price than a mere 10-year one. Vortex and Leupold does it way better than Swarovski. But it’s not a dealbreaker. The support of one decade is enough to prove the sturdiness of the product.

What’s included in the box?

  • Swarovski EL binoculars
  • A FieldPro bag
  • Limited lifetime warranty (10 years)
  • Ocular rainguard  (hinged)
  • 2 objective lens covers

The high-powered Swarovski binos need to come with an added accessory. The box should include a window mount or a tripod.

Swarovski EL user reviews

The user rating for Swarovski EL binoculars is 5.0 stars which is nothing out of the blue!

These are quality pairs of binoculars, and most of the users have found the same. They loved how these binoculars’ optics perform in different light conditions and how cripples the images they can produce.

Only a few users have complained about the price being so high and somewhat we agree with the two especially conducting the warranty being offered.

These binos are unreal! I looked at all of the rest and settled on these. I was thinking about the 8x32EL’s but was able to deal with the extra weight since I hunt from a tree stand or look at wildlife from a fixed position. If you buy them, you will never be sorry! I really can not say enough about them!

Pros: Unreal glass!
Cons: carry case stinks!

Alternatives

Are Swarovski binoculars worth the money? Don’t agree for some reason? Don’t worry! Here are some good alternatives to consider.

Zeiss Victory SF

The Zeiss Victory SF binoculars come with very powerful optics and a wide field of view along with them. They also perform very well in low-light conditions. You will get a wide range of accessories.

Leica Noctivid

The Leica Noctivid binoculars are very similar to Swarovski EL binoculars in terms of features and optics, and they also come with a similar price tag. The Innovative baffle systems allow you to see the bright image with maximum contrast in low light conditions.

Vortex Razor UHD

Vortex Razor UHD also does a fine job as far as the optical performance is concerned. You might have to deal with smaller eye relief, but Vortex Razor UHD binoculars come with an unconditional and unlimited lifetime warranty.

Our verdict

I think nothing can beat Swarovski optics in terms of their optical performance. You’ll get edge-to-edge clarity and sharpness even in the wide FoV sizes.

They are available in different sizes, while 8.5×42 and 10×32 are the most popular among bird watchers and nature observers because of their weight and size. 10×42 is prevalent among hunters because of its more powerful optics.

You can purchase Swarovski EL binoculars directly from Swarovski USA online or in-store or from their authorized dealers located throughout the country.
